Katie Aragon

FWD.us
Program Director, Washington, DC

Katie grew up in San Diego, CA, and after graduating from San Diego High School attended Yale University, where she graduated with distinction in her major, Ethnicity, Race and Migration. Upon graduating, Katie returned to California where she served for two years as the Northern California Organizing Director for FWD.us, fighting for humane immigration reforms by leading engagement with Members of Congress, building up grassroots power, and working with technology companies and the press to advocate and lift up stories of those impacted by policy. She now works in D.C. where as the Grassroots Communications Manager for FWD.us, she helped create and run a national media training program, which has trained more than 200 individuals directly impacted by immigration on tactics for engaging with the press. She now directs Informed Immigrant, a program within the FWD.us Education Fund to provide resources on rights and immigration policy to undocumented immigrants and those who work closely with them. She led the organization's campaign against changes to the Flores regulations, and helped lead coordination of the Flights for Families effort during the family separation crisis at the border in 2018, among other projects.

Katie’s grandparents migrated to the U.S. from Mexico and her family worked as seasonal agricultural laborers before settling in Calexico, a small border town. She works on immigration policy to pay it forward to immigrant families present and future.
