Welcoming Interactive + Welcoming Economies Convening 2019

This training provides community leaders an overview of how to communicate around contentious issues. Excerpted from a full-day training, you will be introduced to key concepts for designing communication messages and strategies that connect with and respond to community concerns, beliefs, and values - and with tools to help you keep learning more about the people you want to reach. Participants will leave equipped with new knowledge and research tools to help design more effective communication efforts that drive a deep story of inclusion at the local level.

In today’s divided climate, facilitated dialogue can be a useful tool to bring neighbors together around shared values and develop mutual respect and understanding. Join the Ad Council’s Emmy Award-winning Love Has No Labels campaign, Welcoming Michigan, and the City of Detroit to learn tips and tricks for using dialogue to bring people together, and walk away with an actionable Community Activation Kit from Love Has No Labels to promote inclusion in your community.

Artistic and cultural activities have the power to contribute to social change in communities around the world. This session will highlight examples of creative placemaking from various perspectives, helping participants explore ways to utilize arts and culture as pathways to creating more welcoming communities.
